questions about fire bow drill

New postby wildcat on Sun 21 Sep 2008 17:37

i've been experimenting with some different woods this last week to get a coal in a bow drill. i've gotton considerable smoke so far. No coal. one problem i am having is the bow string slipping on the spindle. i have tried a shoe string, dental floss and some cheap kite sting. i have also tried scuffing up the side of the spindle with the tip of my knife with no success. how do i keep the string from slipping?

thanks
