In Laos jungles...

New postby Taky on Fri 30 Nov 2007 04:59

I was rafting by myself on Laos jungles earlier this year. Some events make difficult to tell the story, and the started OM article is no where near completion.

But on the mean time I thought I could share a couple of videos :)

turn up the volume... the sound is part of the atmosphere!

I recorded that the first morning I could relax a bit...a flat section of the river before 2 days of nasty rapids starting at those stones you can see at the end.

That is a just a small and easy rapid, you can see my raft as a small dot at the end just agains the rocks.

And another rapid earlier on the trip where you can see the raft, packs and my paddle :)

More! More! Looking forward to the upcoming article. Was the area populated? It looked remote on the videos. The river looked very clear. I was really expecting to see muddy water. Cool videos.

A long way from any civilisation... deep in the jungle and part of it thought forbidden territory. Is almost as deep and remote in jungle as you can get in Asia with out major dificulties: that was the idea!

Some people along the river, specially the first days, almost none on the midle sections, and more as I got lower and the jungle started to clear up (cleared up, would be more accurate :curses: ).

The mekong is murky red, but as you get on rivers sourounded by forest or jungle it clears up... is more or less the same all around the world! I tend to pick up interesting treking areas in function of the rivers colour, if clear there is a good chace to find forests and wild areas, specially if it rains and it still clear...
